First Vision-Aid Supported Center in Visakhapatnam (Vizag) , India
In August 2004, Vision-Aid helped to establish the first dedicated and fully functional low vision center in the small coastal town of
Visakhapatnam (Vizag) , India. This center is led and staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers and experts with wide ranging
specialized skills, training and experience.

The facilities of this center are compliant with the requirements for being a Vision 2020 Secondary Level Low Vision Center
The center has two wings, Vision Enhancement and Vision Rehabilitation, each of which offers state of the art services to its
patients. The centers have been designed by the Vision-Aid team in collabaration with leading experts in the field like the Vision
Rehabilitation Department of the L.V.Prasad Eye Inst. of Hyderabad, India which have well established world class Vision Rehab.
facilities that are recognized as centers of excellence by the World Health Organization.
Through this pilot project, Vision-Aid aims to gain experience in supporting the establishment and operation of other such
facilities in under-served areas of India in a phased manner.
Through its grant program to such centers, Vision-Aid ensures that all patients coming to its center will receive the same high
quality of service and assistance despite their financial position. Poor patients are offered treatment completely free of cost and
affording patients are also asked for only a small registration fee to help our partners meet the running costs of the center.
Vision-Aid relies on the generosity of individuals and organizations that are interested in supporting the visually disadvantaged to
keep its facilities operational and extend its services to other under-served areas.
