Awareness Initiatives

Lack of awareness is a major problem in the area of Vision  Rehabilitation. Vision-Aid
aims to address this issue with several awareness enhancing programs. These programs
are directed  to:
  • Eye Care professionals
  • Visually Impaired Patients and their families, and ,
  • The general public
Sep 2006: Awareness Seminar for Visakha
Ophthalmic Association

Vision-Aid organized a seminar for the Viskha
Ophthalmic Association a a collection of over 100 eye
care providers in the Greater Visakha region. The
seminar comprised of two presentations - one by Dr.
Sharmila , Vision Rehabilitation Consultant on the
subject of Early Intervention. The other presentation
was by Mr. R.Raju, CEO of Vision-Aid (USA) on the
subject of Technology Innovations in Vision
Rehabilitation.. At the conclusion of the seminar , VOA
President handed a plaque of appreciation to
Vision-Aid in recgnition of its service to the Ophthalmic
needs of the region in the area of Vision Rehabilitation.

Awareness Initiatives for Eye Care professionals

Through the organization of seminars , talks by experts and publication of a
quarterly newsletters, Vision-aid attempts to make the latest developments in the
area of Vision Rehab. and Low Vision care known to the local Opthalmic community.

In its first annual seminar in Vizag, India, in August 2004, Vision-Aid and Visakha
Ophthalmic Association, a collection of around 100 regional ophthalmologists,  
organized a seminar to promote improved awareness regarding Low Vision and
latest developments in this area, including cost effective solutions for Vision
Rehabilitation.Dr. S.A.Khan, Director,
Vision Rehab. of  L.V.Prasad Eye Inst.,
Hyderabad, was the chief guest and Dr.K.Ilango, Head of the Low Vision Center,
Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India, was the guest of honor.  Both the guests
presented illuminating talks to the participants. Vision-Aid(USA) Secretary and
Executive Director, R. Raju , explained the goals and objectives of Vision-Aid and
the services that were being planned through the first partner project in Vizag. The
seminar was well attended by Ophthalmologists and eye care units of the region.

News Letters for Eye Care Professionals

Vision-Aid Update , a quarterly newsletter is printed and circulated to all the eye
care professionals in the region. This newsletter contains information which is
intended to keep doctors updated with the latest happenings at Vision-Aid and also
the latest developments in Vision Rehabilitation.
Awareness Initiatives for School Teachers and Parents

In addition to the comprehensive  five day special education training workshops for
school teachers , Vision-Aid organizes short half day public talks on vision disabilities
to large groups comprising school teachers from all regional schools, social workers
and parents of visually impaired children. In these sessions, experts from the field of
Vision Rehab. explain to both teachers and parents how they can best help children
cope with school despite vision loss.
General Awareness Initiatives

On an ongoing basis, Vision-Aid interfaces with the media to publish informative
articles about Low Vision Care and Vision Rehabilitation.
Several leading newspapers
and Electronic Media has supported Vision-Aid in this attempt.

Awareness Initiatives for the visually impaired

Through the services , counselling and literature  offered in the Vizag center, and
through this web site, Vision-Aid attempts to makes patients and their families aware of
latest developments in services, low vision aids and Vision assistive technology.

Vision-Aid CEO , R.Raju and President P.Garimella, presented a Paper titled
"The Vision-Aid Experiment" at the Unite For Sight conference in Yale
University , CT in April 2006. The conference was well attended by delegates
associated with various aspects of eye care  from all over the world.
